Teacher of The Year

In Sept. 2008 Mrs. Emily Williams was named one of the 16 LA County Teachers of the Year
February 2009 was chosen as one of 13 semifinalist for the California State Teacher of the Year competition

Professional Background
After graduating from Temple City High School I attended Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. In June of 1998 I received my Bachelor of Arts degree in Liberal Studies, and in June of 1999 received my Multiple Subject, Clear Teaching credential from their University Center for Teacher Education. In addition I have also earned Supplementary Authorization certificates in Science and English and my CLAD (Cross-cultural, Language and Academic Development) certificate. In June of 2005 I received my Master of Art's Degree in Curriculum and Instruction - Science Pedagogy from Cal State LA. In December of 2006 I became a National Board Certified Teacher.  In May of 2008 I was named the Teacher of The Year by the staff of  South Pasadena Middle School. In June I was named the 08-09 Teacher of The Year for the South Pasadena Unified School District and was given the honor of applying for the LA County Teacher Of The Year competition.  I was then named one of the "Sweet Sixteen" LA County Teacher of the Year and then was named a state semifinalist. I was one of 13 teachers selected out of 350,000 teachers in the state.

Mission Statement
My mission as an educator is to facilitate learning and create a safe, positive, and caring environment where students learn to be responsible, cooperative, and self-managed individuals who respect nature, themselves, and others.

Personal Information
My husband and I, and our amazing son Tyler currently live in Temple City, California, the town where I was born and raised. We have a very close family in fact, my parents, my sister, brother-in-law, nieces and nephew all live on the same block. My older sister is a middle school teacher at Oak Ave. in Temple City. My husband works at the Disneyland Resort. We have a cat named Tinkerbell.

Spare Time Interests
I love spending time with my family, playing games, traveling, watching live theatre, camping, re-reading the Harry Potter books, watching Star Wars, leading my BSA Troops 181 (Girls) & 161 (Boys), working on my photography, learning something new on the computer and going to Disneyland.
